Today in Railway application the Simulation of Distributed brake System is done using modules available as DLL. The simulation of Complex Models requires manual generation of Configuration files which is used by simulation tool for performing simulation. The main challenge of this project work is to investigate on the possibility to have a Graphical User Interface tool for the Distributed Brake System for Trains with the requirement that interfacing tool should be completely license free. The tool will allow user to draw complex models for simulation and will provide the user with the functionality to generate the Configuration files automatically which is then used to simulation software for performing simulation. In this way it will save user time and effort which was required to generate the configuration files manually, it will provide the end user with the better understanding of the entire system and will allow new users to get used to the system in less time. An investigation has also been made for a web based access to simulation resources.
Braking behavior as well as life cycle of a railway brake system depends on the quality of the used brake pads. These qualities are evaluated today in a lot of experiments and a classification (good / bad) is mainly done by the know-how of the railway engineers.This work presents an image processing approach for classification of railway brake pads. It is based on the processing of thermal images monitored during a brake application. The work can be divided into two parts: In the first part the performance of different classical differential filters is evaluated to show, which one could give significant information. An attempt has also been made for finding symmetrical information in thermal images using gradients. In the second part, different methods for brake pads classification are proposed, combining significant information calculated from different image processing. This proposed quality factors are examined and compared using the measured image-sequences of brake applications with bad and good brake pads. This work has shown some useful results and can be used for the classification of brake pads and the definition of quality factors.
With the development of cars, tractors, railway vehicles, and with growing requirements on speed, performance and reliability, the demands on development of high temperature resistant friction materials are increasing, which could satisfy the high safety requirements and environment protection. This contribution concerns the development of new metal-ceramic friction materials. Metal-ceramic friction composites are multi component materials, beside basic metal matrix (bronze) they contain slide additives (graphite) and friction additives (SiO2-SiC). Many applications of such alloy P/M parts are based on these characteristics such as controlled porosity and friction applications(brakes and clutches)applied in automotive industry. The most problems which cause road accidents occur because of brake systems. For this reason metallic brakes are important automotive parts. The advantages of metallic brakes are absorbing more energy under high speed, more wear resistance, high heat conductivity which helps in heat dissipation and stable friction coefficient. This book, therefore, explains the corrosive wear of bronze friction resistant composites prepared by powder metallurgy technique.

The Knowle and Dorridge rail crash was a fatal rail crash that occurred at Dorridge railway station in the West Midlands, England, in August 1963. Three people died in the crash after a signalman's error routed a small freight train into the path of an express passenger train which slowed but could not stop before colliding with it. The express was a Birmingham Pullman service travelling from Birmingham Snow Hill to London Paddington, having departed at 1pm. The freight train movement in Dorridge station was a routine shunting manouvre, one that often occurred both before or after the express train had passed through the station. The Pullman was 9 coaches long, and was hauled by an 11 month old diesel hydraulic Class 52 "Western" locomotive, No. 1040 Western Queen. The freight train was formed of a 20 ton hopper wagon, a pannier tank steam locomotive, a 20 ton brake van, an empty bogie flatcar, and a bogie flatcar loaded with Land Rover vehicles. The crash occurred in fine dry weather, at around 1.10 pm.
